Backtracking, last May I graduated from Rockhurst University with a Masters of Science. I accepted and began my first professional job as a Speech Language Pathologist in June at a Skilled Nursing Facility. I truly love my job, it’s hard to dislike a job that is not monotonous. I love the facility I am at; the building is always pristine and rarely has a foul odor. The only downside of the job is a 33 mile commute (mostly highway).

Onto the news: I was at the gas station and noticed one of my [graduate school] clinical supervisors car at the pump in front of mine. I debated whether or not I should say hi for a couple minutes. THANKFULLY I decided to talk to her, because she told me that her position would be opening. The next day I texted her and asked if the position had been filled and as it had not, she told me she would pass my resume on to the Program Director. Three days later I had an interview and ten minutes after the interview was finished I was called and congratulated… I nailed it! I accepted the position and begin in March at my dream job! Yes, I have always wanted to work at this Skilled Nursing Facility, it is the Cadillac of nursing homes. It is also less than 2 miles from my apartment.

I AM SO EXCITED!
Honestly, if you asked me 7 years ago during my undergraduate coursework where I pictured myself post graduation I would not have included: graduate degree earned, speech language pathologist, or skilled nursing home. I am truly blessed.
Bring on the rest of 2012! This is my year to shine, I believe. On top of accepting a dream position, I have moved into a 2 bedroom apartment by myself, purchased a new queen size bed / frame, and planned a trip to Vancouver & Coachella Music Festival in mid April! (defining: work hard, play hard)
